    Describe what you do in your current work situation?
    A
    I design power distribution systems for large science & technology buildings, University campuses and healthcare facilities.

    Why did you choose engineering?
    A
    I was looking for the right combination of "left brain" and "right brain" technical and artistic opportunity.

    Where did you go to school and what degree(s) do you have?
    A
    University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. B.S. Architectural Engineering

    What kinds of activities have typically been part of your work?
    A
    Design charrettes with architects, client meetings, job site walks, team coordination meetings and time at my desk to perform calculations, write reports and review drawings.

    What do you like best about being an engineer?
    A
    No two days are ever the same. No two projects are ever the same. No two clients or coworkers are ever the same. There is always a challenge around the corner.

    Which of your career accomplishments are you proudest of?
    A
    Passing my professional engineering (P.E.) exam and deciding to shift my career to focus solely on building projects that support research and education that ultimately improves people's lives.

    What challenges have you met and conquered in your pursuit of an engineering career?
    A
    I have learned that being the only woman in a meeting simply does not matter at all. My voice matters just as much as anyone else's.

    Please tell us a little about your family.
    A
    My husband, two daughters and our yellow lab love to spend time outdoors camping, snowboarding and playing soccer.

    What are your short-term (1-2 years) and long-term (10+ years) goals?
    A
    Short term: Hire more awesome engineers. Long term: Find smart clients who want to collaborate on solutions.

    What (or who) had/has the greatest influence on your life choices?
    A
    My dad believed that I could do anything.

    What advice would you give to a young woman considering a career in engineering?
    A
    Know your strengths and do not try to do anything someone else's way. Stay persistent, true to yourself and open minded.

    A
    I have learned that being the only woman in a meeting simply does not matter at all. My voice matters just as much as anyone else's.

    Describe something about your life outside of work: your hobbies, or perhaps a favorite book.
    A
    I love to dance and have a long background of ballet, hip hop and tap experiences. I have transitioned to yoga and pilates these days.
