The better master's degree

Hello Mrs. Florence,
I read your profile and I think you are the right person to discuss my doubt with.
My name is Jiminy. I got my degree as Electrical Engineer, major in Power in Venezuela, South America, and I want to study a master's degree in USA. I can't decide between a Master in Science in Electrical Engineering or a Master in Engineering Management, very different options. Which could be my best option? I would like to study the MEM but I don't know if it is better, in my case, to study the MSEE, for the technical background, in order to get a good job and improve my career.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Jiminy,

A lot of engineers start of working in the technical world and continue in that track or branch off to project or program management and /or personnel management. I would suggest that if you are already working in the technical field but are already being exposed to management aspects either of projects or people, an MEM would be a good bridge for you into management. However if you are still starting out, I would recommend an MSEE to establish you and give you credibility especially when starting off as a foreigner in the USA. Later on you may be able to do an MBA if management is the route that you really want to go. Good luck. Let me know what you finally decide and how it works out for you.

Florence.
